#BinibiniBiyernes: Jana Silao

Meet Jana Silao, our #BinibiniBiyernes for today! Best known for her oddity, she encourages you to embrace being different because it’s not a bad thing at all. At only age 25, she’s one of the finest fashion stylists and curators in the country. She has styled numerous celebrities and worked for magazines such as Scout Mag and Wonder Mag. Currently, she curates The Visual Club, an artist collective from Manila and J-STAR, where she creates handmade accessories and curate designs for her clients.

Tell us a ‘lil bit about yourself! Your age, gender, and your work!

I'm Jana Silao, 25 years old and currently working as a Fashion Stylist.

How can you empower women through the work and advocacy you have?

Looking good and fashionable on the outside can instantly make you feel good on the inside. I love encouraging my fellow friends to embrace their individuality and express it on the clothes they wear. Being extra and fashionable go way beyond being "superficial", for me it's actually self-care if you value how you look. Clothes are our second skin and if you feel comfortable with it, you get a little boost and gain energy to accomplish the things you need to do. Total package sis, win-win. Haha ✌️😗

October is the month of halloween, known for a time where people put on costumes and makeup to achieve their halloween character. What role does make up serve during halloween and for all other occasions?

Fashion and Make-up really go hand-in-hand when it comes not only during Halloween but in every look you wear and project. From light makeup to sfx makeup, it's really fun how we can transform and play with our faces and fashion depending on our moods. I have friends who do wild makeups on a daily so it's actually just normal to us seeing colorful makeup as "normal make-up" hahaha (can I give a little shout out to @jiaachacruz and @reynasaludo)

Any quote from a film or artist that you would like to share in celebration of SPOOKtobre?

I'm currently watching Bunggo Stray Dogs and there's this one line that I keep thinking about: "People with supernatural powers have something wrong in them inside..."

I apologize if it's not encouraging but it makes you think, or it makes me think. My female friends and I have been told we're too different or we do our jobs quite differently but beautifully and people don't know that it actually takes a toll on our soul or something.

Here are the photos of me playing with styling at home during this quarantine hehe
