#MalikhainMartes: Resonance

Updated: Aug 21, 2020

Written by Julyana Panganiban

It took precious hours of staring at her Instagram story religiously,

Give or take a few days of shower contemplation,

“The Ideal”

Ah, yes, familiar. Somehow too familiar.

You were rather obsessed by how she looked genetically-perfect,

Graced with the sparkling image of being just what she is in your books -- ideal.

There was no four-walled safety, only an act of unguarded, seemingly spiteful judgment.

Let me stop you right there.

Hand me your draft, and let me shred it for you,

Before the atrocities burn the softest touch your skin was wonderfully capable of giving.

The society used to be an optimist manhunt, of grasping an angelic mantra to look up to,

And every once in a while, the ‘right’ image which filled the cup with void,

Here’s a praise earned today,

The decades of perpetuating a picture of hailing only one standard of beauty,

Maria Clara is beautiful, and she will eternally be an invaluable relic of yester-,

And we are the queens, the prominent emblems that caged minds became blinded to witness.

Welcome to this resonating revolutionary,

The crown is yours, however the way you want it,

However you wish to set your life’s standards that will enable supreme power --

To love yourself more, To embrace the beauty that is, and within you.
